Avocado Chocolate Mousse

Avocado Chocolate Mousse

Everyone likes chocolate, right? Well for this story if everyone could like chocolate, that would be wonderful. Now imagine, chocolate mousse made from 4 ingredients, that is healthy for you too– too good to be true? Not this time!

Avocado Chocolate Mousse is on the menu and I am going to walk you through the few steps to make it.

The Ingredients, the Goods

Let’s discuss the minimal ingredients and all the goodness they bring to the table.

Avocado aka “The Good Kind of Fat”

  • High in potassium (yes, more potassium than a banana even!), which supports a healthy blood pressure
  • High Fiber content which aids in digestion.
  • Studies show that eating avocado with other (healthy) foods helps with nutrient absorption!
  • High in Vitamin E, which means glowing skin and faster skin healing

Cacao Powder/Cacao Nibs

Since cacao powder is derived from the cacao nibs, I will combine benefits:

  • Antioxidant, which labels Cacao as a major superfood
  • Contains polyphenols which help with blood flow to the brain, improving brain health and function
  • Highest plant-based source of Iron (which vegans can lack in if diet is too selective)
  • Elevates mood. Contains serotonin and other blissful neurotransmitters to help with happiness

Maple Syrup

  • All-natural Sweetener
  • Contains small amounts of manganese and zinc– minerals that are essential to our bodies
  • Can delicious be a benefit?…if so, delicious it is!

Breaking Down the Steps

This is pretty simple. You are going to scoop the avocado meat into a food processor along with the other ingredients and “blend” until smooth, scraping every few minutes to process everything.

Let’s look at pictures– more fun that way!

The ingredients: 3 avocados, 1 cup cacao powder, 1/2 cup cacao nibs, 1/3 cup maple syrup
Put all ingredients in a food processor or blender and process
Voila– Chocolate Mousse
Top with coconut, or whatever topping you like and enjoy!

  • 3 Avocados
  • 1 cup Cacao Powder
  • 1/2 cup Cacao Nibs
  • 1/3 cup Maple Syrup

  • Cut avocados in half, remove seed and spoon flesh into food processor
  • Add the rest of ingredients to food processor
  • Process or blend until smooth, may need to scrape sides every few minutes
  • Serve chilled

Guilt Free Enjoyment

The fun part about this mousse, is how creative you can be with it! There are essentially 4 ingredients required, but that doesn’t mean you have to stop there! Go a little nuts– add in a few dates, top it with coconut (like I did!) dice up a banana and throw it in..have fun with it! If you would like a lower calorie version, you can substitute maple syrup for liquid Stevia (use sparingly and taste test often).

Most importantly, enjoy..savor each bite– curb that chocolate craving!

Happy Munching,

  • This looks amazing and to know it is guilt free is the icing on the cake ( pardon the pun).  Thank you for this recipe I am contemplating a vegan diet but my love of chocolate stands in the way.  This looks easy to make as well thank you.  Hope mine  looks as good as this !

    • Lorraine! If chocolate is the only thing stopping you from having a vegan lifestyle, let me reassure you that there are plenty of vegan chocolates out there! Take this from a mutual chocolate fanatic!

Some of my favorites are the Lily brand who sweeten their chocolate with Stevia too, so no added sugar! https://amzn.to/2TAare9 Check it out! You will love!!

Thanks for reading, and let me know what you think when you make it!

  • Chocolate AND good for you? As you say, seems too good to be true but this is a great little recipe and is very simple to make too. It could be adapted with a few nuts or additional fruit like a banana or something. I liked the look of the rest of your site too. I’m not vegan but have friends who are. I’ll point them this way.

    • Yes! So good for you!

I am currently re-creating this recipe to make it a low fat version for those who need it to be less caloric! You’re absolutely right, bananas are going into the current recipe as we speak!

I think your friends will adore the recipe. It would make an excellent topper to a cupcake too!

      Thanks for reading,

  • Thanks for such simple yet healthy desert recipe. My son loves chocolates but hates avocados when eating raw. But this combination recipe that you recommend is so good that he doesn’t even know he’s eating avocados! We top this avocado-chocolate mousse not with coconut but with raisins. Taste superb. Btw, can I know is there any particular brand you can recommend for cocoa?

    • You are so welcome Florence!

So many people have no idea I put avocado in the mousse, but that is how it is so creamy!

I really enjoy the Terrasoul brand: https://amzn.to/2MVioYO . Their products are delish and affordable! I love chocolate and raisins and will definitely try this next time!

Thanks so much for reading and enjoy,

I appreciate the steps you have taken to show how to make the mousse and to be honest with

you I will be making one frequently as my dessert and probably add some toppings according

to preference.  The kids will love it  , every one love chocolate as you have said , this is a fact .

Healthy eating is very important to our health and the combination of avocado and cacao works

    well with our metabolism

    • Yayy! I think you will really enjoy it Stella, as will the kids! Another person recommended raisins as a topping and I think that would be incredibly delicious!

When things are simple and delicious, you can’t go wrong!

She will love you for it! It is so delicious, simple and very chocolatey! May I suggest pairing it with strawberries, dip the strawberries into the mousse. That would be a perfect Valentine’s Day treat! What a kind gesture of you!

  • Hey there Ciara,

I will start of by saying that for about a year as of right now, I’ve implemented avocados into my daily diet and so far, I have to say- I absolutely love them! At first eating them was kind of weird because I wasn’t used to their taste and consistency, but I’ve managed to quickly find the way to consume them which I enjoy really much, and that would be simply eating them with spoon like joghurt, haha! But they do have to be soft in order for me to eat them with spoon, if they are hard, then I might slice avocado into many thin slices and put them on the bread and eat them that way. However, I do have a really sweet tooth and I eat various desserts almost every day. Therefore I am happy that I’ve stumbled across Your article so I can finally try out something completely new & unique which is shaping up to be very delicious because it combines two of my favourite things- berry (avocado is a berry as far as I am concerned) and desserts! I don’t mind cacao powder and I think it can be a nice addition especially in desserts where chocolate dominates, but I am a huge fan of maple syrup & obviously avocados, so it will be very interesting and exciting to see how all of these ingredients will mix up and what kind of taste will come out of this mix! I think maple syrup will bring that sweetness while avocado will deliver that buttery smoothness, and on top of this cacao will add a some of that bitter and chocolatey taste. At the moment I am vegetarian, however I am starting step by step to make a transition to veganism, so I am curious- is avocado chocolate mousse vegan?

All in all Ciara, thanks for such descriptive and helpful article, I truly enjoyed reading it and learning some new things today! Best of luck to You and keep up the great work!

    • Hey there!

I am so happy to hear you are vegetarian and consuming avocados daily, I am sure your body thanks you as well.

These 4 ingredients work so perfectly well together, it is amazing! You’re absolutely right, the avocados are so buttery smooth and then the maple syrup adds the perfect sweetness to the cacao’s bitterness. All in all it is an absolutely delicious treat to have!

Everything I make is 100% vegan!

Thanks so much for reading and enjoy!

  • This looks amazing and I have all of the ingredients!!!! I can’t wait to try it. I don’t usually make anything out of avocados. I buy guacamole already made but I usually cut my avocados in half and eat them with a spoon or slice them up and roll them in a wrap with salsa. As a treat, I eat dark chocolate or frozen bananas blended with cocoa powder. Your recipe will be fun to try! I hope you don’t mind but I’m going to share a link to your post on my Facebook page, For the Love of Mocha. 🙂

    • Yay- this makes me so happy Theresa! This is a very decadent dessert and I am positive you will love it! I would be honored for you to share my post. That means the world to me! Please let me know what you think of the chocolatey-deliciousness!

Much love (and love the Facebook name!)
